J111 - Enterprise update Q2 2023

Contract J111 is for the construction of Enterprise & Tukang stations on the Jurong Region Line (JRL) and associated viaducts. For this update, we're taking a look at the progress at the contract up to the area around Enterprise station. The viaducts begin at the contract boundary with contract J106, along Jurong West Street 64, roughly opposite block 661C. Our update will span till the junction of Jalan Boon Lay & International Road.

J103 - Corporation update Q2 2023

Besides being responsible for the construction of reception tracks to the depot, contract J103 also covers the construction of Corporation station. The station sits right at the end of the reception tracks from the west, which will branch off the main line before elevating across the main line and Pan Island Expressway (PIE) to swing back to the Tengah depot. As such, the piers east of Corporation station feature a rather different design to carry 4 trackways instead of the usual 2. Construction of the station itself, located in the road median of Jurong West Avenue 2, features a slight differing design from that of neighbouring stations as well. Rather than using rounded piers, this station uses two squarish columns that support the concourse deck. More after the jump!

J103 - Reception tracks update Q2 2023

 Reception tracks are a not-so-talked-about but yet critical part of a rail line. Several years back, when the second generation of trains on the North East Line were undergoing system testing on the main line, one of the train's pantographs (power collecting device that receives power from the supply line) snagged the overhead electrification line while returning to the depot on the reception track. The single train thus managed to cause a service disruption even though the fault occurred off the main line.

What exactly are reception tracks? These are non-revenue tracks that link the main line (revenue service tracks) to the depot where trains go to be cleaned and maintained. If you happen to be travelling along the East-West Line (EWL) between Simei & Tanah Merah, you'll have noticed a lot of viaduct construction taking place. We did a video a few weeks back to explain which are the main line tracks and which are reception tracks. Perhaps you'd like to check that video out if you haven't yet done so? In any case, here's an update on the progress of the reception tracks being built under contract J103.

It has been a while since we've posted about the work going on within Tengah, so it'd be a good opportunity to cover this area which has seen a significant amount of progress. Since the start of the year, two launch gantries have been set up within Tengah new town to begin constructing the network of viaducts that will allow the Jurong Region Line (JRL) to run onwards to both Jurong Pier and Pandan Reservoir. We explore more of the progress of the Tengah junction point and briefly on Tengah station in this post - do note that this is a picture-heavy post.

J102 - JS2A station update

You may have come across some mention of a future in-fill station located between Choa Chu Kang West and Tengah stations on the Jurong Region Line (JRL). How true is the existence of this station? Are we sure there are provisions for such a station? While we have previously covered this topic as a story on our Instagram & Facebook channels, we're now doing up a blog post on the topic of this future station which we'll be referring to as JS2A or Forest Hill, after the Tengah district in which it will be located.

J102 - Choa Chu Kang West update Q2 2023

Contract J102 involves the construction of 3 stations along the Jurong Region Line (JRL) and provisions for a future infill station as well. Stretching approximately 4.3km, the second station along the line is located on Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 and is tentatively called Choa Chu Kang West. We check in on the progress made at the station site as of quarter 2 of 2023.
