J108 - Another major milestone

been lifted into position in preparation for commencement of viaduct construction.

BUKIT BATOK ROAD - Its up! Its hanging, suspended in the air. As you drive along, you might be able to spot a blue truss-like structure on the side table of the road. Might may not be quite the right word as the structure is pretty hard to miss. But if you're driving, best not to be distracted... Hence the use of the word, might.

Nonetheless, this presents another major milestone in the construction of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). This is the first launch gantry for the entire project to be put into position, signaling the commencement of another phase int he construction of the line. We're one step closer to the line's completion!

Typically, there are 2 types of launch gantries - underslung or overhead. The launch gantry in this contract is known as the overhead type. In this type of launch gantry, the main support comes from above where the segmental box girders and suspended below while construction work to erect the viaduct span is completed.

Underslung types, on the other hand, provide support from beneath the viaduct structure by allowing the box girders to sit on jacks rising up from the supporting gantry. In this type, there is often a moving crane that sits atop of the gantry structure to allow for positioning of the box girders into the appropriate positions.
