J105 - Piers at Jurong West

the initial stages of being constructed.

It's been a while since we visited Jurong West station site, so we're making a stop by to check out the progress here. Since our last visit, there is some visible progress by way of piers which are beginning to take shape. One prominent pier column shaft base has been cast and it will be a matter of time before it emerges from the sheet pile pit it is currently in, much like a seedling sprouting.

construction.

At the station site itself, the foundations of several of the station piers are underway - also within sheet pile pits. Bored piles are installed within and a pier cap is built above the piles to provide a means for transferring the load to the various foundation piles supporting the pier. Once the pier cap is completed, a pier can be built above.

cap will be built atop of these piles to spread the pier load out.

We believe that the stations along the Jurong Region Line (JRL) will utilise a modular system of construction where the station is constructed atop several piers located in the road median. The pier crossheads will support both the station concourse beams as well as the track beds within the station area.

Although the angles limit the views, several piers can be seen under construction at the eastern end of the station as well. The spacing between the piers may be reduced as compared to that of the viaducts according to the design requirements.

western end of the station.

station under the same contract.

With a number of pier bases already under construction, it will be a matter of time before they become more visible from street level as well. Do watch this space as we update on developments at this site in time to come.
