Choa Chu Kang - closure of exit D and shops

Contract J102 was one of the first contracts awarded for the construction of the Jurong Region Line (JRL). As such, construction works at this contract are some of the farthest along. The contract entails the construction of 3 JRL stations, including addition & alteration works to the existing Choa Chu Kang station. To do this, a new platform will be added to allow for cross-platform transfer between the North South Line (NSL) and JRL. The concourse level will be expanded as well, to accommodate circulation and vertical access to the new platforms.

In order to expand the concourse further on the western side (former site of the bus interchange), exit D will need to be closed so that works can proceed. Notices posted by the contractor indicate that these will take place on 28 April 2022 (Thursday).

closed. Pictogram signs have been since removed.

station.

As the entire western side of the station will be required to expand the existing concourse area, the shops and restroom facilities along the corridor have been relocated as well. A new temporary shopfront has been created towards the north side of the station. Several tenants have moved in whilst others are in the process of fitting out their new units and will open in time to come.

the units prior to moving in.

The new northern frontage also houses the relocated restrooms while a new pick up and drop off point is located close by as well. Along Choa Chu Kang Loop, the foundations of the first two columns under contract J102 were noted in the initial stages of construction.

The North South Line (NSL) station operator, SMRT, still has the list of tenants at the existing station featured on its webpage. Attempts at finding the list of units for the new shop frontage were unsuccessful.

With the move to the new shop frontage north of the existing station, not all tenants have decided to move over in view of the close proximity to other outlets located at Lot One shopping mall, within Choa Chu Kang town or at neighbouring MRT stations. Below is a compilation of the tenants and the new unit locations at the northern shop frontage:

As we obtain more information, we will attempt to update the new locations of the tenants. Till then, there remain a few more days where the western corridor remains accessible at Choa Chu Kang station. The area will likely be hoarded off for hacking of walls, relocation of utilities and overall expansion of the station's concourse.

These works are the beginning of a drastic change and major upgrade to the station. We look forward to more progress at this site as works move along.
