The Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded Contract J108 for the construction of Tengah Plantation, Tengah Park & Bukit Batok West stations to a joint venture of McConnell Dowell and John Holland last month. This represents the first contract from phase 2 of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) to be awarded.

McConnell Dowell was previously involved in the construction of the Downtown Line stations at Beauty World, King Albert Park and Sixth Avenue.
John Holland was responsible for the Downtown Line Jalan Besar station and is currently delivering Springleaf and Siglap stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line.

According to McConnell Dowell, the stations will be approximately 150m long. This probably includes rooms to house mechanical & electrical components as trains are expected to be around 75m long. Construction methods for the guideways include using launch gantries and lifting frames.

Today the LTA tendered contract J111 for bidding. This represents the last of the civil contract tenders for the JRL. Part of phase 3, the contract is for the construction of Enterprise and Tukang stations along with associated viaducts.

To date 8 contracts have been awarded. 6 remaining contracts have been tendered and are awaiting for award, including 1 contract for the construction of and completion of an integrated transport hub known as Jurong Hub.

Are construction of MRT considered as essential or non-essential services? If that is the case, we will likely see the opening of future MRT lines and stations being delayed?
