Over the last few weeks, several contracts for civil construction packages have been awarded by the Land Transport Authority to China Railway 11 Bureau Group who previously completed stations on the East West Line's Tuas West Extension in 2016. These consist of back-to-back awarded contracts J101 for the construction of Tengah depot and J105 for the construction of Jurong West & Bahar Junction stations.

Contract J101 is for the construction & completion of the Tengah rail deport for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) which will be co-located with a bus depot and foreign worker's dormitory.

Contract J105 on the other hand, is for the construction & completion of Jurong West station, Bahar Junction station and associated viaducts. The Jurong West station is a standard station along the western route of the JRL which sits in the road median strip with linkbridges connecting to entrances on both sides of the road.

The station will feature a single island platform that serves trains heading towards the southern terminus Jurong Pier and the northern terminus of Choa Chu Kang. Initially the station will have 3 entrances with a future fourth entrance to be added once the Jurong Innovation District begins development.

Bahar Junction, however, is one of the most bizarre and/or innovative solutions to meet the service requirements of the JRL. The station will feature three tracks with two platforms located perpendicularly to each other. Trains on the western route of the JRL will call at each of the platforms once during its round-trip journey along the route. The island platform portion, like at Jurong West station, will serve the Jurong Pier & Choa Chu Kang bound trains. Trains heading towards the western terminus will use a separate platform connected by a linkbridge.

The station will feature 6 entrances, all linked to the station concourse by bridges as the station will be suspended over the junction of Jurong West Avenue 4 & Streets 64 and 75. Construction of all three key projects are due in the coming year. With the awards of the two contracts, in addition to the earlier announced awards for contracts J102 and J103, the first phase of the JRL is about 60% awarded. We expect that the awards for contract J106 and J107 will follow soon that construction on the first phase of the line be able to proceed on schedule.
