Boon Lay station used to be the original terminus of the East West Line (EWL) at the end of its western run. Located in an underdeveloped precinct of Jurong West estate, the only developments that used to be in close proximity to the station were the Jurong Point shopping centre and the Boon Lay bus interchange, both located to the north of the station. While the area has undergone massive development since the station's opening in 1990, the arrival of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) in 2026 will further boost the area's vibrancy.

The new station will be built perpendicular to the existing station, as such it can be expected that the platforms will be directly located above the viaducts of the EWL below. A potential link between the stations of the two lines may be built at both the EWL station's concourse and platform levels.

A potential but unconfirmed render of Boon Lay station. In the foreground to the right may be a potential platform level link to the EWL station which would be flanked by the two viaducts.

The linkedin picture shows the connection between the JRL and EWL. Basically, due to the fact that the JRL tracks have to run above the EWL tracks, the JRL platforms are one level above the EWL platforms. From the EWL platforms, one can either walk the same level to the concourse level of the JRL section, or take the escalators or the stairs or the lift to the JRL station level. Confirm, the bicycle racks currently in that location have to be permanently relocated, and that area is quite large. Suggest the retrofit the Eastern part of EWL Boon Lay station to have the replacement bicycle racks of the same capacity as the current one.
